Verna Linnea Flecten O'Gorden
1907 - 2005 Verna Linnea Fleckten O'Gorden, 98, Kenmare, ND formerly of Niobe, ND, died Friday, December 16, 2005, at a Kenmare hospital. She was born in a "little house on the prairie" 2 miles southeast of Niobe on November 29, 1907, the daughter of Victor and Julia (Sand) Fleckten. Her family moved to a farm on the edge of Niobe where she grew up with her 3 brothers and 4 sisters. After graduating from Kenmare High School Lin, worked in Niobe at the general store and at her older brother's bank. In 1934, Lin and her brother, Arthur moved to the bank to Drayton where Lin worked for several years. She married Odin "Odie" Daniel O'Gorden in 1937. Lin and Odie had three son's, James, John and Robert. In 1946, Lin returned to Niobe to care for her parents and run the family farm and Odie took a Pharmacist position at the Minot Drug Store. While living in Niobe Lin performed a variety of jobs and duties including part-time Postmaster and general store operator, and served a term as Township Treasurer. Odie died in 1968. With loving care from Lin, Julia lived
on the farm in Niobe until she passed away at the age of 102.
In 1995, Lin moved to the Baptist Home in Kenmare. Survivors: sons, James O'Gorden, Kenmare; John (Marilyn) O'Gorden, Libertyville, IL, and Robert (Linda) O'Gorden, Coos Bay, OR,; grandson's, Douglas, Mark, Matthew, Gary and Victor O'Gorden; great-grandsons, Tyler, Taylor, Brendan and Griffin O'Gorden; and great-granddaughter, Lily O'Gorden; sisters, Amy Oaks, Pembina, ND, and Helen Fossum, Lancaster, CA, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Odie, her parents, sisters, Ruth Neve and Lillian Bechtel and brothers, Arthur, Clifford, and Chester Fleckten. Memorial Service: Thursday, December 22, 2005, at 11 a.m. Elmdale Lutheran Church, Niobe. Friends may sign a register book one hour prior to the church service. Burial at Lakeview Cemetery, ND, in the spring of 2006. Officiant: Rev. Dan Paulson Music: Processional hymn "Oh, Come, All Ye Faithful"
