Marilyn Nurnberger 1956- 2011

Marilyn Nurnberger PhotoAfter a courageous battle with cancer, Marilyn Nurnberger, 54, Velva, passed away Monday, March 7, 2011 surrounded by her loving family.
                          
Marilyn was born on July 15, 1956, in Seoul, South Korea, when she was two years old she was adopted by Urban and Norma (Golly) Nelson of Velva.   She was reared and educated in Velva and graduated from Velva High School.    She later married Jerry Nurnberger and they lived south of Velva. After her marriage, she went back to school first at Minot State University, where she received her Bachelors of Art in  Social Work and Psychology  and later received her Master’s Degree in Social Work at the University of North Dakota.   She worked as a family advocacy treatment manager at Minot Air Force Base before becoming the sexual assault prevention and resource coordinator (SARC), at MAFB.  Most recently she worked as a military family life consultant (MFLC) for all military branches. 

Marilyn was active in various professional and volunteer organizations

Despite a busy work schedule, Marilyn loved spending time with her family and friends.

Marilyn is survived by children, Aleta (Allan)  Vetsch, Devils Lake, ND, Tanya Westfall and her fiancé, John Nush,  Minot, Jeri Nurnberger and her fiancé, Zac Hassler, Minot;  Michael Nurnberger,  Minot; grandchildren, Damian Westfall and Benjamin Vetsch, brother, Gene (Paulette) Nelson, Minot. Special friend, Bob Yecoshenko, Butte, ND.

She was preceded in death by her  husband of 25 years, Jerry; parents, Urban and Norma Nelson.

Funeral: Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, Friday, March 11, 2011, at 1 p.m.

Burial: Velva Community Cemetery, Velva, ND later in the spring.

Visitation:  Thursday, March 10, 2011 from noon until 7 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND.
