Selmer Norgard 1926 - 2006

Selmer Norgard, 80, Berthold, entered into eternal life on Friday, February 3, 2006 in a Minot hospital, surrounded by his family

Selmer was born on January 18, 1926, the son of Christ and Thora (Sanda) Norgard on the family homestead, Hartland, ND. He was reared and educated in the Hartland area, graduating from Hartland High School in 1943.

On December 28, 1946, Selmer was united in marriage to Arlene A. Burner in Fargo, ND. Following their marriage, the couple made their home on the farm in Carpio Township, Ward County, where they farmed and raised their family. In addition to farming, he worked as a field man for the Ward County Federal Crop Insurance, sold insurance for the Great Common Wealth Life Insurance Company Inc, Dallas, TX and the Lincoln Mutual, Fargo. Arlene died August 11, 1993. Following her death he continued to live on the farmstead, and was currently serving on the Hartland Mutual Insurance board at the time of his death.

Selmer was a past member of the Zion Lutheran Church Board, school board, and the cemetery board, all Hartland and was a current member of the Carpio Lutheran Church. He was recognized for having a Pioneer Farmstead by the State of North Dakota, and by the Successful Farming Magazine, for having an original homestead barn. Selmer enjoyed going to auction sales in search of antiques, enjoyed reciting and writing poetry. He was a friend to everyone, and could often be found having a conversation with a complete stranger.

He is survived by: Daughter, Faye (Arlo) Borud, Stanley; foster children who were raised by the Norgard's upon the death of Arlene's sister when they were children, David (Vickie) Pankratz, Burlington; Carla (Jeff) Johnson, Wichita, KS; Kimberly Ann (companion, Harold Keene) Shawmut, MT; grandchildren, Brian (Janel) Borud, Bradley Borud, Brent (Robin) Borud, Chad Pankratz, Ross (Allison) Pankratz, Kyle (girlfriend, Jesse Krueger) Pankratz, Angela Johnson, Andrew Johnson, Anita Clason. great-grandchildren: Tanner, Hunter, Conner, Brock and Mya. sisters: Helga Anderson, Voltaire; Grace Brietzke, Minot; sisters-in-law, Lois (Art) Rademacher, Foxholm; Verna (Bud) Harmon, Minot; and brother-in-law, Dale (Pat) Burner, Carpio. Numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Arlene and brother, Conrad, sister Gladys Jensen, sister-in-law, Virginia Norgard, brothers-in-law, Lawrence Brietzke and Oscar Anderson. one niece and two nephews.

Visitation: Monday, February 6, 2006 from noon until 7:00 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot
