Otto "Rusty"
Nissen Otto was born November 24, 1941 in Minot, ND, the son of Otto H. and Edna (Stone) Nissen, Sr. He was raised in Drake and attended school in Drake and finished his education in Butte, ND. He entered the United States Navy on February 12, 1960 and served in active duty on the Mediterranean Sea. Otto "Rusty" was honorably discharged on February 28, 1966. He then worked for the civil service as a diesel mechanic for nineteen years, spending five of those years in the Azores. Rusty was an animal lover and took great pride in his dogs which he called "his kids". Rusty lived life to the fullest and always had a joke to tell when he saw you. Those who shared in his life, Daughters, Margaret Speedy and Christine Nissen; son, Otto Henry Nissen III; brother, William O. (Joyce) Nissen, Minot, ND; nephew, William T. (Peggy) Nissen, Minot, ND; nieces, Machelle (Kevin) Howe, Minot and April (Aaron) Boatright, Lockport, IL. Several grandchildren, grand nieces and grand nephews also survive, as well as a good friend Rick Harmon. Rusty was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Ben Enge Sr. and aunt, Cecelia "Susie" Stone. Graveside service: A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 23, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND. Visitation: There will be no reviewal, but friends may sign the register Thursday, May 22, 2008, from noon to 5:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
