Myron F. Nissen 1930 - 2005

Myron F. Nissen, 75, 1510 7th St. SW, Minot, ND, died Sunday, December 4, 2005, in his home after a courageous battle with cancer.

Myron Frank Nissen was born on November 16, 1930, the son of Martin and Anna (Stolt) Nissen in Drake, ND. He was raised and educated in Drake.

He was drafted in the US Army on November 21, 1951. He was honorably discharged on March 13, 1952, in order to help his family with the operation of the family farm.

Myron was married to Betty Bartsch on November 3, 1954, in Drake. They made their home in Spencer, IA, for three years, before moving to Minot, where Myron worked for the railroad. He worked there for three years, prior to starting his career with the US Postal Service. On March 2, 1988, Myron retired as the Postmaster in Des Lacs, ND, after 31 years of service. After his retirement, he worked various jobs, including 10 years at Sears.

He was a former member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Minot. He was an active member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot, the Northwest Polkateers, Loyal Order of the Moose, and the Knights of Columbus. Myron and Betty opened their home and hearts to numerous foster children over the years.

Myron lived a very unselfish life, dedicating it to his family first and foremost. He was a kind, very hard working man. He looked forward to family get togethers and celebrations, as he and Betty recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. He was incredibly proud of his children and grandchildren. He was a faithful supporter of all their academic and athletic activities. He was an avid Minnesota Vikings and Twins fan. He loved dancing, fishing, playing cards, and spending time with his many friends. Very few Saturdays went by without breakfast with his sons and grandson.

Surviving family includes: wife of 51 years, Betty, Minot; sons, Kevin (Julli) Nissen, and Ronald (Amy) Nissen, all of Minot; grandchildren, Angela, and Jacob Nissen, and Emma, and Eli Nissen; sisters, Selma (Balcer) Keller, Towner, ND, Viola (Burdette) Hurly, Curlew, IA, Myrtle (Elden) Bigger, Redwood Falls, MN, Sharon (Orville) Duval, Wishek, ND, and June Green, Phoenix, AZ; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Myron was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Beverly Nissen; and brother-in-law, Jack Green.

Funeral: Friday, December 9, 2005, at 10:30 am at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot.

Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.

Visitation: Thursday from Noon to 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Vigil Prayer Service: Thursday at 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Minot.
