Roy Nienow 1909 - 2005 Roy Nienow, 96, Des Lacs, ND, died August 8, 2005, at the Rockview Good Samaritan Center in Parshall. Roy was born July 13, 1909, in Drake, ND, the son of Henry and Martha (Koehler) Nienow. He was raised and educated in Drake and helped his family on the farm. In the 1930's Roy began farming and ranching with his brother Rueben in Rolling Green Township, south of Des Lacs. In 1980 Rueben died and Roy continued to farm in that area with his nephews Tom and David Nienow. In 1995 Roy moved to Minot and lived at Edgewood Vista, where he lived until entering the Rockview Good Samaritan Center in Parshall, ND, in October of 2004. Roy's love was farming and ranching. In the 1970's Roy milked cows by hand and could milk six to eight cows faster than anyone else. He always rode horseback and in the early 80's he graduated from riding horseback to riding a four wheeler. He was always there to help, and always had time to visit with anyone about anything. He loved picking rock in the spring, raking hay all summer and would be around to open gates when feeding cows, buffalo and horses. In his later years Roy enjoyed running around checking cows and checking up on his nephews. Survivors: Numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews survive. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Martha; brothers, Reuben, Ivan, Elmer, Leon and Walter Nienow; sisters, Alice Cunha, Vera Samson and Mae Lunnick. Funeral: Friday, August 12, 2005, 11:00 a.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND. Visitation: Friday from 9:00 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.
