Olive I. Nicolaisen 1920 - 2002

Olive I. Nicolaisen, 3503 247th Ave. SW, Max, ND, died Sunday, May 19, 2002, in a Minot foster care home.

Olive was born on August 22, 1920, in Minot, ND, the daughter of Tory and Carrie (Carlsten) Sand. She was raised and educated in Afton Township, Ward County, southwest of Minot. After her schooling, she worked on her family's farm. She then went to work for Ellison's Department Store, and worked there for several years. She married Sam Gieser in 1947 in Minot. They made their home in Minot and had one daughter, Sandra Gieser. Her daughter died from complications with cystic fibrosis at the age of 11. Her husband died in 1964. Olive remained living in Minot. She married Herman Nicolaisen on November 12, 1966, and they made their home in Gasman Township, Ward County. She helped her husband with the operation of the farm for many years. Her husband Herman died on April 26, 2002. She recently moved to the Unsong Ringuette Foster Care Home.

Olive was a member of Saron Lutheran Church, Minot, and a former member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot. While in school, she was a member of the Afton Lucky Clovers 4-H club. She was a member of the Gasman Homemakers Club, and belonged to the Scandinavian Heritage Center, Minot.

Memorials are preferred to the charity of the donor's choice.

Survivors: stepson, Daryl Nicolaisen and his wife Cleo, Max; two grandchildren, Lisa Rustad and her husband Scott, Horace, ND, and Jason Nicolaisen, Max; one great-grandchild, Ryan Rustad; two sisters, Palma Schoenwald and Evelyn Chambers and her husband Ken, all of Minot; two brothers, Carl Sand and his wife Helen, and Arnold Sand, all of Minot. Several sisters-in-law and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Sam Gieser and Herman Nicolaisen, daughter, Sandra Gieser, and her parents.

Funeral: Thursday, May 23, 2002, 10:30 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot

Visitation: Wednesday, May 22, 2002, from noon to 7:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, and prior to the service at the church Thursday morning.

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
