Vernon Newman 1936 - 2007 Vernon Magnus Newman was born August 2, 1936, the son of Ernest and Olga (Heggum) Newman on the family farm south of Velva, ND. He was raised and educated on the family farm and attended Woodliff School District. Vernon had worked as a general laborer for most of his life. In 1950, he had worked at the Minot Air Force Base, and in 1953 for the Garrison Dam. From 1954-59, he worked on the various missile sites throughout North Dakota, South Dakota, and Montana. From 1960-70, he worked at the power and gasification plants in Beulah, Antelope Valley and MDU stations. He had also worked for Monarch Products and Wilbert Vault Co., Minot from 1971-72, Northern States Power Co., Minot, from 1974-75, and as a Civil Service employee at the V.A. Hospital from 1976-78. He then worked in pipe insulation at the Gas Plant in Beulah, ND, from 1979-84. In 1986, Vernon retired and lived in Minot. Later, he started to face physical challenges of various kinds that finally resulted in his going into Trinity Nursing Home in Minot in March of 2005. If Vernon had any spare time he was fishing or playing pinochle with his friends. He will be remembered as a giving and caring person. He was baptized in the United Pentecostal Church of Minot and belongs to the Apostolic Faith Church, where the funeral will be held. He was also a member of the Eagles Aerie, the Moose Lodge, the Labor Union, and the 2nd Story. Surviving family includes: mother, Olga Newman, Velva, ND; sister, Eilene Emly, Minot; twin-brother, Virgil Newman, Velva; sister-in-law, Alice Newman, Minot; and several nieces and nephews. Vernon was preceded in death by his father, Ernest; brothers, Elmo, Robert, and Harold; and brother-in-law, George Emly. Funeral: Tuesday, April 3, 2007, at 10:00 a.m. at Apostolic
