Ruby Newman, 91, Minot, ND, formerly of rural Sawyer, passed away Thursday, March 1, 2007, at ManorCare Health Services, Minot.

Ruby Vina Irwin was born January 17, 1916, the daughter of Ray and Ada (Harry) Irwin on the family farm, located in Gasman Township of Ward County, rural Sawyer, North Dakota. She was raised and educated in the Sawyer/South Prairie area where she attended the Bieghle School.

Ruby was united in marriage to Raymond J. Newman October 8, 1934, in Minot. They made their home on a farm located in Newman Township of Ward County, rural Sawyer. They farmed small grains and raised livestock. They lived on the farm until moving to Minot in 1996. In 2005, they moved into Brentmoor for a short time before residing at ManorCare Health Services.

Ruby was a member of First Assembly of God Church, Minot. She was a former member of the Calvary Chapel, rural Sawyer, where she had taught Sunday school, and was a member of its Women's Missionary Council. She was also a member of the Highland Ladies Aid, South Prairie, ND.

She loved baking her famous brownies, cooking, gardening, flowers, and raising her chickens. She was a beautiful seamstress and had a wonderful sense of humor. Everyone was always welcome in her home, which she so diligently kept very neat and tidy.

Everything Ruby and Raymond did, they did together. They were the "perfect" married couple. Her family was very important to her, as she enjoyed the holidays and the many family gatherings together. She made a quilt and a set of dish towels for every one of her children and grandchildren. Her grandchildren were #1 to her.

Her loving family includes: husband of 72 years, Raymond, Minot; children, Joyce Keil and her husband, Paul, Park River, ND, Rich Newman and his wife, Donna, and Jim Newman and his wife, Joann, all of rural Sawyer; grandchildren, Tim (Rebecca) Keil and their children, Matthew, Nicole, Austin, Olivia, and Tristan; Tami Jo (Kevin) Alm and their children, Elli, Lexi, and Griffin; Daniel (May) Newman and their son, Cody; Rhonda (Dallas) Weishaar and their children, Paige, Easton, and Regan; Joel (Karmell) Newman and their children, Jaylen, Ashtyn, and Carter; and Jay (Marcie) Newman and their children, Hannah, Luke, and Adam; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; infant brother, Glenn; brother, Lloyd Irwin and his wife, Lena; and brother, Clifford Irwin and his wife, Frances; sister, Addie "Mickey" Sambor, and her husband, Paul; and sister, Beulah Witham.
