Ernest "Bud"
Newman 1929 - 2003 Ernest "Bud" Walter Newman, 73, Minot, formerly of Sawyer and Logan areas, died Monday, September 29, 2003, at a Velva nursing home. He was born October 6, 1929, in Ward County, the son of Walter and Susie (Olson) Newman. He was reared and educated in the Sawyer area. Bud entered the United States Army October 16, 1951, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in Korea and was awarded the Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge and other awards and citations. He was honorably discharged on July 15, 1953. He married Clarice "JoAnne" Haverluck on September 5, 1967, in Minot. Throughout the years, Bud was employed with the Great Northern Burlington Railroad, Aasen Landscaping, in civil service at Minot Air Force Base, working on missile sites, and with numerous other construction companies in the Minot area. His wife died in July of 1991. In November of 2001, Bud started receiving care from Trinity Hospice and in 2002, he entered the Souris Valley Care Center. He was a member of the Minot Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors: children, Ernie (Tina) Newman and Jody (Tim) Meckle, all of Minot, Gordon (Shirley) Haverluck, Surrey, Daniel (Marsha) Haverluck, Phoenix, AZ, Gloria (Charles) Emery and Mary Mosser, all Minot, Edward Haverluck, Grand Island, NE, Susan (Robert) Mosser, Minot, and Kim (Jerry) Kuntz, Ely, IA; 24 grandchildren, Pamela (Tobie) Hansen, Crystal and Gordie Haverluck, Tim (Rachel) Haverluck, Amy and Toni Haverluck, Dan Emery, JoAnn (Cameron) Halstead, Clayton (Diane) Mosser, Edward (Joey) Haverluck, Jr., Nathan, Andrew, Noan, Jenny and Cody Haverluck, Renae and Darrin Mosser, Josh and Zachery Kuntz and Aaron, Brady, and Cylie Newman; 10 great-grandchildren, Taylor and Riley Haverluck, Allie, Morgan, and Wyatt Haverluck, Alexander Hansen, Jordan, Kayla and Zachery Halstead, Joshua Haverluck and Anthony Mosser; brother, LeRoy (Marlene) Newman, Minot; sisters, Esther Haugen, Burlington, and Marilyn (Arnie) Seney, Minot; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a special pet, Babe Meckle. His wife and his parents preceded him in death. Funeral Service: Saturday, October 4, 2003, at 10 a.m. at First Assembly of God, Minot. Visitation: Friday, October 3, 2003, from noon until 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot. Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot. Officiant: Rev. Nathan Johnson and Rev.
