Lena Bertsch Nett 1919 - 2006

Lena Bertsch Nett, 86, Minot, died Monday, October 23, 2006, from a heart attack, in Minot.

Lena was born on December 27, 1919, the daughter of Frank and Barbara (Wolfe) Dutenhafer, in Rugby, ND. She was reared and educated in Rugby, ND, and attended country schools.

On October 29, 1941, Lena Dutenhafer was united in marriage to George Bertsch in Orrin, ND. Following their marriage, they made their home in Orrin, ND, where they farmed small grains. In 1962, they moved to Minot, where Lena worked at the Labor Temple and Knights of Columbus as a waitress. George died May 1, 1973.

On November 15, 1974, she was united in marriage to Ben Nett. In 1975, she began working at Trinity Homes, in the housekeeping department, where she retired from in 1984. Ben died October 12, 2006.

Lena was a member of the St. Leo's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, both of Minot. She was also a former member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters of America and the church choir, all of Orrin, ND.

She enjoyed visiting with friends, doing crossword puzzles, watching game shows, and playing bingo. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by: Sons: James (Rikkie) Bertsch, Minot, David (Gail) Bertsch, Minot, Ron Bertsch, Minot, Eugene Bertsch, of Cody, WY; daughters: Marge Hoffer, Minot, Donna Mathiason, Newark, CA, Sandra (David) Eshenko, Fargo, ND; step children: Bruce (Judy) Nett, Glenburn, Brent Nett, Minot, Dal (Kris) Nett, Bel Air, Maryland, Debbie Nett, Minot; brothers; John Dutenhafer, Francis Dutenhafer and Jerome (Carol) Dutenhafer, all of Rockford, IL; sisters: Hilda Jasper, Harlingen, TX, Bernadine Brandon, San Antonio, TX, Katherine Bost, Anne Johnson, and Carol Beaver, all of Rockford, IL. Sisters-in-law, Delores Solway, Esmond, ND, and Delores Dutenhafer, Minot; brother-in-law, Bill Huene, Rockford, IL; 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, three step grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, George and Ben, brothers, Joe and Jack, sisters, Delores, Josephine, and Pauline; and a daughter-in-law, Louise.

Visitation: Thursday, October 26, 2006 from noon until 7 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Vigil Prayer Service: Thursday, October 26, 2006 at 7 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Mass of Christian Burial: Friday, October 27, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot.

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.

Memorials are preferred to an organization of the donor's choice.
