Michael E. Ness 1942 - 2006 Michael E. Ness, 63, White Bear Lake, MN, and formerly of Des Lacs, ND, and Minot, ND, passed away Thursday, January 19, 2006, at Fergus Falls, MN. Michael Emmett Ness was born on October 28, 1942, the son of Emmett David and Elizabeth Tracy (Johnson) Ness in Kenmare, ND. He attended grade school in Des Lacs, ND. In 1960, he graduated valedictorian of his class from Bishop Ryan High School in Minot, ND. Mike then attended Dartmouth College for two years. He entered in the US Army on April 8, 1963, and was stationed in Japan and The Dominican Republic. He was honorably discharged on August 5, 1966. He returned to North Dakota and graduated from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks with a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1968. He then began employment with the IBM Corporation as an electrical engineer. He retired in 2000, after 32 years. He was a member of the American Contract Bridge League. He enjoyed competitive Bridge and earned the distinguished Lifetime Gold Master Award. He also enjoyed playing golf with his friends and family. Surviving family includes: father, Emmett, Minot; sisters, Theresa (Mark) Katona, Milwaukee, WI, Mary Tandy, Kenosha, WI, Patricia (Dan) Piercy, Fountain Valley, CA, and Veronica (James) Larkin, Oxnard, CA; brothers, Thomas (Denise) Ness, Battle Lake, MN; and Robert (Sharon) Ness, Fridley, MN; aunts, Colleen Mickelsen, Minot, Lucile Patrick, LaMesa, CA, and Dolores (Lyle) Sundin, Washington, PA; and many nieces and nephews. Michael was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth "Libby" Ness. Mass of Christian Burial: Monday, January 23, 2006,
at 10:30 am at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Minot.
