Minnie Nelson Ness 1900 - 2002

Minnie Nelson Ness, 102, Kenmare formerly of Portal, ND died Saturday, November 30, 2002, at a Kenmare Hospital.

She was born May 30, 1900, in Willmar, MN the daughter of Henry and Agnes Nelson. She moved to Lignite as a child where they lived on a farm. She attended a country school in Portal Township. She worked as a cook in a cook car for fall harvest crews for many years.

She married Jens Ness on November 20, 1918, at Estevan, Saskatchewan, Canada. In the early 40's they bought a farm northwest of Lignite and she lived there until 1996. Jens died on January 13, 1970, in Minot. Minnie became a resident of the Baptist Home in Kenmare in 1996 and resided there until moving to the Kenmare Nursing Home, where many friends and residents had a chance to enjoy her company and help her celebrate her many birthdays.

Minnie was active in the Lutheran Church and the Rival Homemakers Club in Lignite. Her faith in God was unwavering and she enjoyed the simpler things of life. Minnie had many hobbies, including knitting, crocheting, and embroidery. Her family and friends enjoyed the fruits of these hobbies. She loved to travel and was a friend to all wherever she went.

All those left behind will miss her warm smile and caring attitude.

Survivors: son, Hanford Ness and his wife Alice, Bowbells; grandchildren, Dennis Ness and his wife Thelma and Wayne Ness, all of Bowbells, and Linda Lockwood and her husband Ed, Fargo, ND; 9 great-grandchildren, and numerous great-great-grandchildren, as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. Minnie was preceded in death by her husband, Jens, her parents, son, Lyle, grandson, brother, Howard Bly, and one infant brother, and three sisters, Annie Erickson, Gladys Grove and Myrtle Nelson.

Funeral Service: Wednesday, December 4, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Bowbells.

Visitation: Tuesday, December 3, 2002, from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson funeral Home, Bowbells.

Burial: Columbus Community Cemetery. Burial will take place at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, December 4, 2002.
