Dorothy M. Ness,79 , 1448 2nd St. SE, Minot, died Thursday, November 22, 2007 in a Bismarck Hospital.

Dorothy Smith was born on October 4, 1928 in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, the daughter of Leslie Wilbur and Florence (Irvine) Smith. She was reared and educated in LaCrosse and graduated from High School there. In 1948, she moved with her daughter to Minot to be close to her father.

She married Orville Ness on September 5, 1953 in Minot. Following their marriage they lived in Minot where he worked for Northern States Power Company and she worked for Montgomery Ward first as a salesperson and later in the billing department. They moved to Eagan, Minnesota because of his job in 1974. They later moved back to Minot in 1986. Orville died on January 25, 1992 and she continued to live in Minot.

Dorothy was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot and the Eagles Aerie.
Dorothy loved to travel with her daughter, Jean to the casinos and also to play BINGO. She loved her family and taking care of them was her life. In later years she would travel with her son-in-law, LaMoure Thrailkill and Jeanette Marshall.

Dorothy is survived by her son-in-law, LaMoure Thrailkill, Minot, grandchildren and great grandchildren, Harry (Julie) Thrailkill, and their three sons, Jacob, Liam, and Matthew all of Minot, Amy Towery and her children, Christopher and Casey Lucero, and Vivian Padgett and her husband Rodger and their son, Rodger, Jr., of Norfolk, VA; brother, Donald Smith, Medford, WI; sisters, Beverly Schaan, Minot and Mary (Gerry) Tobias, Hastings, MN. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Jean M. Thrailkill, and two nephews, Stewart Schaan and Todd Lubinsky.

Funeral: Tuesday, November 27, 2007 at 2 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot.

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND

Visitation: Monday, November 26, 2007 from noon until 7 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND.
