Thelma Nelson PhotoThelma Nelson, 89, Mohall, ND, formerly of Kenmare, ND, died Thursday, February 10, 2011, at the Mohall Good Samaritan Center.

Thelma Rose Lee was born September 2, 1921, in Croydon Surrey, England. a daughter of William and Mary (Brace) Lee. She served in the Royal Air Force W.A.A.F. from 1941 to 1945 as a Teleprinter Operator.

Thelma met her future husband, Walter G. Nelson, while he was stationed in England with the service. They were married November 22, 1944. Following his honorable discharge, Walter returned to Kenmare, North Dakota. Not long after, Thelma and her infant son, Ken, arrived in New York on the Queen Mary from south Hampton, England, on April 1, 1946. They made their home in Kenmare where they continued the family farming operation. Thelma received her United States of America citizenship in May of 1950.

Walter passed away in May of 1985. She lived her retirement years in Arizona.

Thelma was an avid golfer and enjoyed the card game of bridge. She also enjoyed reading and crocheting. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.

Thelma is survived by: her sons, Kenneth Nelson, Park City, UT, and James (Lori) Nelson, Kenmare; grandsons, Joseph (Michele) Nelson, Kenmare, Thomas Nelson, Kenmare, Daniel (Lynette) Nelson, Bowbells; granddaughters, Allison (Ryan) Goosley, Lakewood, CO, Sandahl Nelson, San Diego, CA, seven great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; sister, Lorna (Norman) Larson, Lacey, WA, brother, James Lee, Surrey, England, and a nephew, Cory (Stacy) Larson, Auburn, WA.

Thelma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter; and her four brothers.

A Private Family Service: will take place at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Kenmare.

Interment:  Lakeview Cemetery, Kenmare, ND.

Immediately following the funeral service, please join the family for a time of fellowship and lunch at the Jim and Lori Nelson residence. The graveside service will be held at a later date in the spring of 2011.
