Naomi Nelson 1950 - 2008 Naomi Faye Eaton was born November 6, 1950, the daughter of Leo Ernest and Adelheid L. (Wolkenhauer) Eaton in Kenmare, ND. She was raised and educated in Lignite and graduated from Lignite High School in 1968. Naomi married Dale A. Nelson December 26, 1968, in Flaxton, ND and started their life together in Colorado Springs, CO. While Dale served his country in the U.S. Army, Naomi attended college at Mayville State and later Minot State. Following Dale's discharge from the Army, they made their home in Tioga, ND, where they started their family. Naomi and her family also resided in Havre for a short period of time. They soon settled their family south of Lignite, ND, on the Eaton family Homestead. Along with the day to day operation of the farm, they raised foster care children. She most recently worked as an adult foster care provider. Other jobs Naomi has had are working as the Foothills Township Assessor for many years, as a CNA at the Crosby Hospital, as a volunteer EMT for the Portal Ambulance, and as a school bus driver. Naomi's faith was strong and was an important part of her life. That faith was shown during the most difficult times in her life. She viewed this time as an opportunity to share her faith with others. Naomi was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Flaxton. She also was an active member of the Church of God in Lignite where she played piano and taught Sunday School. Her loving family includes: Husband, Dale, Lignite; daughters, Brenda (Chris) Christianson, Voltaire, Amie (Raymond) Kraft, Lignite, and Leslie Nelson, Lignite; son, Dan (Amy) Nelson, Kenmare, and step-daughter, Dawn Pederson, Sidney, MT; grandchildren, DeNaye Pederson, Ashlee, Charlie, Clay, and Brook Sheehan; Heather and David Christianson; Micah and Isaac Nelson; and Ethan, Alyssa and Ciara Kraft; mother, Adelheid "Heidi" Eaton, Lignite; brother-in-law, Theodore Grandall, Lignite. Many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive Naomi was preceded in death by her father, Leo Ernest Eaton, and sister, Wilma Jean Grandall. Memorial Service: Friday, October 10, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at Lignite Church of God, Lignite. Naomi had recently been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. It was her wish to help medical science in finding a cure, so she chose to donate her body to the Deeded Body Program at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine. Due to her generous gift, there will be no reviewal, but friends may sign the book one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Lignite Church of God, the Portal Ambulance or to an organization of the donor's choice.
