Norma Faye Golly Nelson 1928 - 2003

Norma Faye Golly Nelson, 74, 106 1st St. East, Velva, ND, died Thursday, January 30, 2003, at a Minot hospital.

She was born August 17, 1928, in Velva, the daughter of Eugene N. and Tressie (Sigman) Golly. She was raised north of Velva on the family farm. She attended school in Velva except for one year which she spent at Bergen. Norma graduated from Velva High School in 1946. After graduation Norma moved with her parents into Velva.

She married Urban C. Nelson on January 29, 1947, in Havre, MT. The couple lived in the Tolley and Mohall areas for 2½ years before returning to Velva. Norma and Urban had one son, Gene Charles Nelson, and they adopted a child, Marilyn Ann Nelson, from Seoul, Korea. Norma was also a foster mother in her home to several children. Urban died on April 13, 1997, in Minot. Norma and Urban would have celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary on Wednesday, January 29, 2003. Norma continued to live in Velva until her death.

Survivors: son, Gene C. Nelson and his wife Paulette, Minot; daughter, Marilyn Nurnberger and her husband, Jerry, Velva; grandchildren, Jeremy Charles Nelson and his fiancee Teresa Carter, Jennifer Katharine Henjum and her husband Isaac, Genea Ann Nelson, Aleta Faye (Westfall) Vetsch and her husband Allan, Tanya Julia Westfall, Jeri Tressie and Machael Gordon Nurnberger; two great-grandchildren, Keegan John Henjum and Damian Westfall; brother, Ervin Eugene Golly, Iron River, WI; sisters, Irma Irene Felski, Minot, and Velma Rossich, Velva; several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband, Urban, parents, brothers, Lyle and Howard Golly and sisters, Ruth Gilfillan and Cleo Duchscherer

Funeral Service: Monday, February 3, 2003, at 2 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Minot.

Visitation: Sunday, February 2, 2003, from Noon until 5 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot

Burial: Velva Community Cemetery, Velva. Burial will take place at 4 p.m. on Monday.
