LeRoy E. Nelson 1917 - 2004

LeRoy E. Nelson, 86, Kenmare, died Thursday, January 1, 2004, in his home.

LeRoy was born August 13, 1917, on the family farm near Kenmare, ND, the son of Otto and Ruby (Hjort) Nelson. While growing up he helped on the family farm and attended country school in Burke County. He later graduated from Kenmare High School.

On June 17, 1943 he married Pearl Martinsen at the Coteau Lutheran Church, in Coteau, ND. They lived and farmed west of Kenmare and also raised horses. In 1991 they retired from farming and on October 8, 2002, they moved into Kenmare.

LeRoy was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Kenmare, where he served as deacon for a number of years. His family was his greatest joy in his life, but he also enjoyed farming and raising horses. LeRoy was one of the founders of the Little Butte Saddle Club, and also helped organize the Northwest Racing Association. He loved attending horse shows and always remained very active in everything having to do with horses.

Survivors: His beloved wife of over 60 years, Pearl Nelson, Kenmare; sons, Dennis Nelson, Hazen, and his children, Troy, Travis and Tennille Nelson; Larry (Carol) Nelson, Kenmare, and their children, Dana (Timothy) Tranby, and their daughter, Shelby Tranby, Tanya (Klay) Sabrosky, and Heather Nelson; Daniel (Julie) Nelson, Spicer, MN, and their children, Seth, Abigail, Elijah and Jonah Nelson; daughter, Pam (Warren) Duerre, Kenmare, and their children, Mitzi (Kyle) Yanish, and their daughter, Madison Yanish, Mitchell Duerre; sisters, Marlys Leet, Minot, and Carol Skalman, Wadena, MN; step-brother, Paul (Gunhild) Lund, Sun City, AZ; sister-in-law, Marjorie Martinsen, Kenmare; numerous nieces and nephews also survive. LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral: Monday, January 5, 2004, at 11:00 a.m., at Faith Baptist Church, Kenmare.

Visitation and Family prayer service: Visitation Sunday, January 4, 2004, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., with a family prayer service Sunday at 7:00 p.m., all at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Kenmare, ND.

Burial: Lakeview Cemetery, Kenmare, ND, in the spring.
