Florance V. Nelson 1905 - 2003

Florance V. Nelson, 98, Minot, died Saturday, May 31, 2003, in a Minot Nursing Home.

Florance was born on February 21, 1905 to George and Julia (Halvorson) Hanson on the family homestead west of Glenburn or south of Lansford in VanBuren Township, where she went to school. They moved to Minot in 1918 and she went to school one year there. They then moved to Glenburn, where she finished the eighth grade. Her mother died in 1919.

She married Carl Nelson on November 16, 1927 on the farm in Renville County, south of Lansford. They farmed there most of their adult lives. There are three children: daughter, Viola (Vi) Baker of Minot, ND and Mesa, AZ; sons, Harry Nelson and his wife Pearl of rural Lansford, and Duane Nelson and his wife, Margaret of rural Minot. They moved to Minot in 1945. Carl died on February 4, 1998.

Mrs. Nelson was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Minot. Florance was an avid crocheter and was awarded many blue ribbons at the North Dakota State Fair. She also loved to complete and make word search puzzles.

Survivors: daughter, Viola (Vi) Baker, Minot, ND and Mesa, AZ; Harry Nelson and his wife, Pearl, rural Lansford and Duane Nelson and his wife, Margaret, Minot; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Hilda Roles, husband, Carl, son-in-law, Lyle Baker, granddaughter, Dorothy Nelson, granddaughter in law, Gail Nelson, great-granddaughter, Nicole Christianson.

Funeral: St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Minot on Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at 10:30 a.m.

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND

Visitation: Tuesday, June 3, 2003 from noon until 7 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND.

Memorials are preferred to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Minot, Trinity Lutheran Church, Glenburn and Hope Lutheran Church, Surrey.
