Agnes Nelson, 93, Norwich, died Saturday, August 22, 2009 at the Souris Valley Care Center in Velva, ND.

Agnes Gotvaslee was born June 24, 1916 in Northeast Norwich Township, McHenry County to Ole and Anna (Ottem) Gotvaslee. She was raised in the Norwich area and graduated from Norwich High School. She attended Minot Normal School, where she earned her two year teaching degree.

Agnes married Donovan Nelson on November 6, 1937 at Minot. They lived in Minot until World War II began, and Donovan went to serve overseas. While Donovan was overseas, Agnes moved from Minot to teach at Norwich and Drake Public Schools. In 1949, when Don returned from the service they moved to a farm south and east of Norwich. Donovan passed away on April 23, 1985. Agnes continued to live on the farm until 2008.

Agnes was a sports enthusiast, who played basketball and softball in her earlier years. She loved to bowl, and bowled with her husband, Don in a Minot league for many years. She loved watching her children and grandchildren play in sporting events.

She was a member of Norwich Lutheran Church, the WELCA of the church and a member of the Norwich Church Quilters. She was a former member of the Eastern Star and a former member of the Norwich Church Council. She also taught Sunday school for many years. Agnes had a loyal and loving heart which she shared with all.

Those who shared in her life, children, Linda (Stan) Freeman, Kenmare, ND, Donna (Mike) Seright, and Donovan G. (Kathy) Nelson, all of Granville, ND, Patty (John) Karhoff, Burlington, ND, and daughter-in-law, Sandy Nelson, Minot; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Evelyn Gotvaslee, Norwich, ND, and several nieces and nephews.

Agnes was preceded in death by her husband; son, Lee Nelson; her parents; two sisters and seven brothers.

Funeral: Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Norwich Lutheran Church, Norwich, ND.

Visitation: There will be no reviewal, but friends may sign the guest register Wednesday one hour prior to the service in the church.

Burial: Norwich Lutheran Cemetery, Norwich, ND.
