William "Bill" Nathan 1935 - 2008

William "Bill" Nathan, 72, Minot, died Friday, May 30th, 2008 in his home surrounded by his family.

William George Nathan was born August 16, 1935, the son of Jacob J. and Kathryn (Vollmer) Nathan in New Rockford, ND. He was raised and educated in New Rockford until his senior year. The family moved to Bozeman, MT and Bill graduated from Gallatin County High School in 1953. The family returned to North Dakota, settling in Tuttle, ND. As a young boy he worked in the hardware store and also assisted his father in the Blacksmith shop. Bill moved to Minot after graduating from high school and worked for Western Sheet Metal. In 1955, after the death of his father, he returned to Tuttle, where he took over his father's business and supported his mother and younger siblings.

On May 17, 1958, he was united in marriage to Inez Davis in Bismarck, ND. They made their home in Tuttle, where he had the blacksmith shop. In April of 1960, they moved to Minot and he worked for Minot Welding Company. In 1974, Bill and his brother Harold purchased the business. After Harold's retirement, Bill's son Neil and nephew Craig purchased half of the business. Bill enjoyed the challenge of doing the impossible. The motto of the blacksmith shop is "We can mend anything, but a broken heart." His business was very important to him; he was an honest and fair businessman. Bill never formally retired and wanted to work 50 years at Minot Welding, but due to health issues was unable to complete this goal.

In spite if health issues, Bill and Inez had the opportunity to celebrate 50 years of marriage with a party and dance on May 17, 2008.

Bill enjoyed fishing and working with his hands. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and a good friend. Always willing to lend a hand or help where needed.
