Eugene L. Murphy, Jr. • 1928 - 2010

Eugene L. Murphy, Jr., 82, Velva, died Thursday, May 20, 2010 at the Souris Valley Care Center in Velva.

Eugene was born January 1, 1928 in Mott, ND to Eugene L. and Velma (Sloan) Murphy,
Sr.  He was raised and attended school in Haynes, ND.  He served 2 years in the United States Army and was stationed in Alaska during the Korean War. Upon discharge he worked on the Santé Fe Railroad. He married Irene Buchholtz on January 19, 1957 at St Vincent's Catholic Church in Mott, ND.

Eugene moved to Missoula Montana in 1961 and raised four sons.

He was a member of the carpenters union, and later worked at a Goodyear Tire Company and later as maintenance engineer in the Missoula school system from which he retired in 1984.  He moved to Minot in June of 1995, and has resided at the Souris Valley Care Center from September 2002 until his death.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Irene, sisters; Pat, and Eleanor; brothers; Tommy, John and Dennis

He is survived by his sons; Kevin (Cheryl) Murphy, Terry (Angie) Murphy, Steve (Missy) Murphy and Jody Murphy; grandchildren: Kayla (Vincent), Chris, Amanda, Zackery, Sean, Stephanie, Josh, Levi, Montana Jewel, Brittany, Kaleb, Kameron; great-grandchildren, Hunter, Logan, Kristen, Madelyn; sisters: Mary (Thomas) Ketelle, Rose (Stanley) Bjelland and Janet Murphy; brothers; Michael Murphy, Timothy Murphy, James (Sandra) Murphy; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral:  Monday, May 24, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Velva, ND.

Visitation and vigil service:  Visitation will be Sunday, May 23, 2010, from noon to 5:00 p.m. with the vigil prayer service at 5:00 p.m., all at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Burial:  Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Rosehill Cemetery, Minot, ND.
