Esther Murphy 1913 - 2004 Esther Murphy, 90, 815 1st Ave. SE, Minot, ND, passed away of natural causes on the evening Wednesday, June 16, 2004, in her home. Esther was born September 18, 1913, on the family farm near Ruso, ND, the daughter of Peter and Dina (Ishta) Borg, who had immigrated from Hamar, Norway in 1904. She graduated from high school at Turtle Lake, ND, in 1931. In the fall of 1931, she began teaching grades one through eight in a one-room school north of Turtle Lake. After teaching for four years, she moved to Detroit, MI, to join her brothers. She attended business college and was employed by Ward Baking Company where she met her future husband, Cecil Murphy, who had immigrated from Dublin, Ireland in 1920. They were married on November 29, 1941, in Detroit where they lived until 1946, when they moved to Coleharbor, ND, and established the Harbor Bar. In 1958, the family moved to Minot. Cecil died in 1987. Esther continued to live in Minot until the time of her death. She was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot, and was active with the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and Serra Club. Survivors: four children, Celeste Perdue, Minot; Cecil (Donna) Murphy Jr., of Des Moines, IA, John (Cecilia) Murphy, New Orleans, LA, and Pat (Karen) Murphy, Williston, ND; twelve grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren; and a special niece, Dixie (Gerry) Bergrude, Minot and special nephew, Jim Hauge, Lakewood, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil, her parents, five brothers, two sisters, and her son-in-law, Ed Perdue. Funeral: Monday, June 21, 2004, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot, ND. Vigil Prayer Service: Sunday, June 20, 2004, at 5:00 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot. Visitation: Sunday, June 20, 2004, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home. Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND. Celebrant of the Liturgies: Father Chris B.
