James H. Mueller 1930 - 2006 James H. Mueller was born on July 10, 1930, the son of Anton and Jessie (McDaniel) Mueller in Granville, ND. He was raised on the family farm which was located in Saline Township of McHenry County, rural Granville, ND. He attended a country school in the area. As a young adult, he assisted his parents with the operation of the family farm. He continued in that capacity even after his father passed away when Jim was 18 years old. Jim also worked various construction jobs in the area. Jim was married to Violet Kinzell on August 16, 1950, in Minot, ND. They made their home in Granville, ND. He was drafted by the United States Army on November 21, 1951. He proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, the United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He was honorably discharged on October 27, 1953. Following his discharge from the Army, they made their home in Minot. In 1954, he began employment with Swift & Co. He drove truck for them for 14 ½ years. In 1970, he began driving truck for Cenex Transportation. He retired in 1992, after 22 years with Cenex. He was the recipient of two "1 Million Mile Safe Driving Awards." Following his retirement, they wintered in Apache Junction, AZ for 5 years. They enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Alaska and Canada. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, bird feeding and making wine and beer. He loved to attend country western concerts and the Nodak races. Jim always had a joke or story to share. His humor touched the lives of everyone he met and he will be greatly missed by all his family and friends. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, Moose Lodge, the Bluegrass and Old Time Music Association of ND, and the Teamsters Union Local # 123, Bismarck. He was also a member of the American Legion and a lifetime member of the VFW Post #753. Surviving family includes: wife of 55 years, Violet, Minot; son, Allan Mueller, Las Vegas, NV; daughter, Shelly (Paul) McDonald, Aberdeen, SD; grandchildren, Morgan Mueller, Jace McDonald, Spenser Mueller, and Mallory McDonald; sister, Maxine Honea, Vacaville, CA; aunt, Blanche Miller, Minot; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bill, Gilbert, Leo, George, Alvin, Richard and Ralph Mueller; sisters, Vi Evans, Tillie Armstrong, and Marjeane Sooy.
