Eleanor Morrau PhotoEleanor Morrau, 96, Kenmare, died Monday, July 11, 2011 in a Kenmare hospital.

Eleanor L. McGillivray, the oldest of eight children, was born on August 8, 1914 to  Ella and Donald McGillivray. She attended country school, graduated from Kenmare High School in 1935, and married Seldon Morrau in 1935.

They operated the Morrau Photographic Studio documenting the life of the community for many decades through school pictures, graduation photographs and wedding photographs. Eleanor’s specialty was hand colored photographic portraits.

She was an avid naturalist who actively engaged in hunting, bird watching and banding of migratory birds.  She was involved for many years documenting the movements of the endangered Whooping Cranes.  

Eleanor was a member of the Nazareth Lutheran Church and the Ruth Circle. 

Eleanor is survived by: Siblings: Don McGillivray, Des Moines, IA, Jean West, Des Moines, IA, Ramona Walden, St. Paul, MN; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Seldon, brother Hugh McGillivray, and sisters  Lois Kennard, Shirley Pille and Margaret Gaar.

Visitation:  Friday, July 15, 2011, one hour prior to the service at the church.

Funeral Service: Friday, July 15, 2011, 11 am at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Kenmare, ND

Burial:  Lakeview Cemetery, Kenmare, ND

Following the graveside service, everyone is invited to join the family in the lower level of the church for lunch and fellowship.

Eleanor’s family would like to thank everyone for the many acts of kindness shown to them during this difficult time. Your thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated and will never be forgotten. May God bless the memory of Eleanor!
