Jay Russell Moody 1949 - 2002

Jay Russell Moody, 52, 8340 Highway 40, Battleview, ND, died Wednesday, July 17, 2002, in his home of complications from cancer.

He was born on October 31, 1949, in Powers Lake, ND, to Wallace and Alice Mae (Melberg) Moody. He was raised north of Battleview, ND, and attended grade school there. He graduated from Powers Lake High School in 1968. He continued his education at ND State School of Science, where he received his diesel mechanics degree. He served in the U.S. Army from September 5, 1970 to April 27, 1972, and was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. Following his honorable discharge from the service, he returned to North Dakota. In 1975, he started working for the Lignite Gasification Plant, currently Bear Paw Energy, in Lignite, ND, and worked there for over 25 years. He married Marlene Jay Clark on June 20, 1981, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Powers Lake. He also remained active in the farming operation with his parents.

Jay inherited his work ethic from his father, and always managed to make work fun. He enjoyed fixing and restoring old trucks and cars, or anything else that needed some fine-tuning. He loved to fish, hunt and spend time outdoors. He treasured time spent with his family and took a yearly vacation with his wife and son, always to some new and adventurous destination.

He was a member of Battleview Lutheran Church, Battleview, and served on the church council. He was a member of the Powers Lake American Legion, Ray Clemenson Post # 96. He also served as coordinator for area benefits through Lutheran Brotherhood.
