Joseph A. Moe, 88, Minot, died Monday, September 1, 2008 in a Minot hospital.

Joseph Arthur Moe was born October 4, 1919 in Tioga, ND, the son of Otto and Emma Moe. He was raised and educated in Tioga.

On April 25, 1941 he entered the United States Army. He served with the 164th Infantry Division in the battle at Solomon Island at Guadalcanal during World War II. He was wounded in battle on October 13, 1942 and earned the Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged on October 15, 1943 and returned to Minot.

Joseph worked at the Minot Post Office for a time and later at Minot Steam Laundry. On October 27, 1950 Joseph married Ruth Bohun in Minot. Following their marriage they moved to Minneapolis, MN where he attended refrigeration school. They returned to Minot where they made their home and started their family. Joseph worked at Monarch Concrete for several years. He then began employment at Bridgeman Creamery as a truck driver, where he worked until his retirement.

When his children were growing up he enjoyed spending time with his family at their cabin on Strawberry Lake. He loved to hunt and fish and enjoyed going to Canada on numerous fishing trips. He enjoyed watching baseball, especially the Atlanta Braves. He was a whiz at doing jigsaw puzzles, and in later years word search puzzles.

Joe was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of the Trench Rats and a former member of the Eagles Aerie. He was a member of the Teamsters Local where he earned a perfect driving award for his service at Bridgeman Creamery.

Joe was a very caring husband, father and grandfather, with a heart of gold, who will be deeply missed.

Those who shared in his life, loving wife of 58 years, Ruth Moe; Minot; children, Beverly (Richard) Anderson, Minot, Richard (Connie) Moe, Burlington, JoEllen (Kevin) Boyko, Douglas Moe, Annette (Jeff) Kniffin, Michael (Holli) Moe and Melissa (Chet) Allende, all in Minot; grandchildren, Shane, Travis and Cameron Moe, Shawn, Tasha and Derek Boyko, Nicole Kidd, Jessica Anderson, Amanda Wald, Kristen and Bryan Moe, Jeremy, Naomi and Joshua Kniffin, Kassandra and Stephanie Moe, Joseph "Niko", Adrianna and Richie Allende, Shantel Denny, Heidi and Robyn Beaudoin; 11 great-grandchildren; twin sister, Gladys Pederson and sister, Betty Luetzen, both in Minot; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins survive.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Clarence, Arnold, Herman, Elmer, Russell, Melvin, Willard, Leonard, Leland, Burnette, Donald and Lester Moe; sisters, Pearl Jorstad, Myrtle Norton, Helen Fjelds and three siblings who died in infancy.

Funeral: Thursday, September 4, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at Vincent United Methodist Church, Minot, ND.

Visitation: Wednesday, September 3, 2008 (today) from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Burial: Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot, ND.
