James Mitchell, 57, 625-9th St. NE, Minot, went with Jesus peacefully at his home surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, June 26, 2008.

James was born on August 4, 1950, in Sacramento, California, the son of Kyle and Monte (Kingery) Mitchell. He was reared and educated in the Lompoc, California area and graduated from Lompoc High School. He then moved to Nebraska when he was 19. He worked various jobs in various areas of the country including a Ponca Hills horse stable, a sign company putting up billboards, and drove semi. Over the years he lived all over the country working for the Iron Workers Union. In 1987, he was disabled while working on a building for the union. On April 14, 1990, he married Donna J. Bley in Lignite, ND. They eventually settled in Minot, where he did some bartending for a time for On The Rocks.

Jim was a member of the Iron Workers Union out of Midland, Texas and for a time was a member of ABATE. He attended Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot.

Jim was a free spirit who loved the outdoors, traveling, friends, family and his home. He will be missed by all who knew him.

James is survived by his wife, Donna (Bley) Mitchell, Minot; daughters, Marlo (Jim) Turner, Lincoln, NE, Joey Mitchell, Lake Havasu City, AZ and Karen (Robert) Childers, Mandan, ND; nine grandchildren, father, Kyle Mitchell, Roseberg, OR; brothers, John Swaim, CA and Danny Mitchell, NE; sisters, Valorie Mead, MO and Vicki Larsen, NE.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Monte Stanton, uncle, John Kingery and aunt, Rose Paschane.

Celebration of the his life will be on Monday, June 30, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot.

Visitation: Sunday, June 29, 2008 from noon till 5 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
