Theresa B. Miller • 1928 - 2009 Theresa Barbara Burckhard was born February 22, 1928, a daughter of Frank and Caroline (Black) Burckhard, in Rugby, ND. She was raised in the Berwick area where she attended country school. As a young adult, she assisted her family with the operation of her grandparents farm and was hired out to assist other mothers on their farms. She later worked at the Ideal Café in Rugby and also cleaned various homes in that area. On June 24, 1947, she married Peter F. Miller, in Fulda, ND. The couple moved to Bergen, ND, in October of 1947, where they farmed until 1978, when they moved to Minot ND. During her years in Bergen, she worked the family farm, which included the farming, milking, raising chickens, pigs and cattle, and everything that went with it. She raised her 8 children mostly on her own since Peter was gone a lot working long hours and was often out of town. She worked as a waitress and cook at several restaurants, did janitorial work, owned and operated her own café in Karlsruhe and was a Home Interior representative. Theresa had continued to clean houses throughout her life. Peter passed away February 20, 2008. Theresa was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was active in both Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Karlsruhe, ND and Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Minot. She was involved in the church choirs, the Christian Mothers groups and the Altar Society Guilds at the churches. She was an active member of the PTO in the Bergen and Karlsruhe schools. She loved to work, keep busy, to sing, to play cards and to dance. No one could dance the polka like Theresa and her beloved Peter. She was a wonderful cook and one of the best bakers, especially of homemade bread. Peter said that "Mom's homemade bread was better than anything you can buy, even if it failed". Theresa is survived by her sons, Ronald (Jean) Miller, Cedar Rapids, IA, Richard (Kelly) Miller, Voltaire, ND, Donald (Diane) Miller, Minot, ND, and Marvin (Mona) Miller, Velva, ND; daughters, Karen (William) Watson, Sun City, AZ, Janice (Pat) Miller, Minot, Marilyn (Marlin) Schiele, Minot, Sherrie (Bruce) Leier, Minot; grandchildren, Katie (Ardean) Schill, Dana (Tina) Miller, Laura (Dean) Forbes, Bob (Tiffany) Miller, Wendy (Mike) Bishop, Deann (Dustin) Zaun, Brad (Brenda) Schiele, Steve Schiele, Kelli (Matt) Hillerud, Doug (Amy) Miller, Darren Miller, Dustin (Christy) Miller, Mike Miller, Jennifer Miller, Jonathan Miller, Nicole (Michael) Kaylor, and Travis Leier; 16 great-grandchildren; and 3 step great- grandchildren; sisters, Barbara Schell, Minot, ND, , and Marian Axtman, Minot, ND; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Theresa was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Peter; and four brothers, and one sister. Mass of Christian Burial: Wednesday, June 3, 2009,
