M. Ilene Mickelsen 1928 - 2009 M. Ilene Lindquist was born June 19, 1928 in Roseland Township, Burke County, ND, a daughter to Carl and Linnea (Segerholm) Lindquist. She attended country school in Roseland Township, except for the years 1936 through 1939, when she lived and went to school in Longview, WA. She graduated from Kenmare High School. On June 27, 1948, Ilene married Arnold E. Mickelsen at Elmdale Lutheran Church in Niobe, ND. They made their home on the Mickelsen Farm in Kandiyohi Township, where they raised their five children. In 1996 they moved into Kenmare. She taught school for one year at Kandiyohi Township School #1. She did the bookkeeping for Kenmare Floral for many years, and worked at Jorgenson Hardware for a few years. Ilene was a long time member of Elmdale Lutheran Church in Niobe and was their dedicated organist for 30 plus years. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Hospital Guild, and the church circle and Ladies Aid. The most special part of her life was her family, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her faith in God. Ilene loved to work in her flower garden, read and crochet. Ilene loved her music and played piano and organ for many years. She shared her musical talent by donating her time to play at the Kenmare Baptist Home, the Kenmare Hospital, rural churches and for many local events. Ilene is survived by the love of her life, her husband Arnold of 61 years; five children, Gary Mickelsen, Jerry (Barb) Mickelsen, all of Kenmare; Marcia (John) Seime and Sheila Burns, all of Bowbells, and Timothy (Kathy) Mickelsen, of Kenmare; 15 grandchildren, Michelle Heesch, Celeste Thingvold, Christopher and Courtney Seime, Braden, Katrina and Jordan Mickelsen; Travis, Ryan, Adam and Lindsay Mickelsen; Misty, Dustin, Miranda and Cody Burns; 13 great-grandchildren, Ramsey, Bailey, Delise, Kira, Noelle, Jenna, Bo, Carson, Cohen, Kelbi, Kyleigh, Rylee and Kennedy; brothers, Marvin (Wanda) Lindquist, Kenmare, and Richard Dale (Gail) Lindquist, Boise, Idaho; sisters-in-law, Leone Mickelsen, Spokane, WA, Margaret Barry, Alameda, CA, Colleen Mickelsen, Minot, and Lila (Donovan) Propp, Ottumwa, IA; numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Ilene was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Linnea Lindquist; brothers-in-law, Irvin Mickelsen, Lawrence Mickelsen and Doug Barry. Funeral: Thursday, December 17, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at Elmdale Lutheran Church, Niobe, ND. Visitation: Wednesday, December 16, 2009, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Kenmare, ND, and Thursday, one hour prior to the service in the church. Burial: Elmdale Lutheran Cemetery, Niobe, ND. Following the graveside service everyone is invited to join the family for lunch and fellowship in the church fellowship hall. Those not attending the graveside service may begin the luncheon and the family will join you when they return from the cemetery. Our family would like to thank everyone for the many acts of kindness shown during this difficult time. Your thoughts and prayers are deeply appreciated and will never be forgotten.
