Arnold Mickelsen 1927 - 2010 Arnold E. Mickelsen was born March 9, 1927, in Kandiyohi Township, Burke County, a son to Lewis and Clara (Andersen) Mickelsen. He attended the Kandiyohi Township country school thru the eighth grade, He enlisted into the United States Navy when he was 17 years old and was honorably discharged at the end of World War II. On June 27, 1948, Arnold married M. Ilene Lindquist at Elmdale Lutheran Church in Niobe, ND. They made their home on the Mickelsen Farm in Kandiyohi Township, where they raised their five children. Arnold farmed and ranched until1996, when they moved into Kenmare. Arnold was a lifetime member of Elmdale Lutheran Church. He was an active member and held many offices on the following boards: Elmdale Lutheran Church, Greater Kenmare Parish, Kandiyohi Township, Farmers United Co-op, Farmers Union Oil Company, American Legion and Last Man’s Club. He was also a member of the Lakeview Art Club, and has painted and sold many wonderful pictures over the years. Arnold help start the Historic Society in Powers Lake, when he moved to Kenmare he became and active member and president of the Pioneer Village in Kenmare. He enjoyed giving tours and collecting items for the village. Arnold also drove the Kenmare School bus for many years. Arnold is survived by his five children, Gary Mickelsen, Jerry (Barb) Mickelsen, Timothy (Kathy) Mickelsen, all of Kenmare; Marcia (John) Seime and Sheila Burns, all of Bowbells; fifteen grandchildren, Michelle Heesch, Celeste Thingvold, Christopher and Courtney Seime, Braden, Katrina and Jordan Mickelsen; Travis, Ryan, Adam and Lindsay Mickelsen; Misty, Dustin, Miranda and Cody Burns; thirteen great-grandchildren, Ramsey, Bailey, Delise, Kira, Noelle, Jenna, Bo, Carson, Cohen, Kelbi, Kyleigh, Rylee and Kennedy; sisters: Margaret Barry, Alameda, CA, Lila (Donovan) Propp, Ottumwa, IA: sisters-in-law, Leone Mickelsen, Spokane, WA, Colleen Mickelsen, Minot: Arnold was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ilene; brothers, Irvin Mickelsen, Lawrence Mickelsen and brother-in-law Doug Barry. Funeral: Monday, August 30, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at Elmdale Lutheran Church, Niobe, ND.
