Eunice Michaelson 1930 - 2010

Eunice J. Miller was born October 25, 1930 on the family farm south of Velva, ND, to Fred D. and Elna M. (Jensen) Miller.  She was raised in Velva and graduated from Velva High School in 1949.  She attended Minot State Teacher’s College where she earned her Standard Teaching Certificate. 

Eunice taught for one year at Brillian Township School south of Sawyer, ND.  She then traveled to Spokane, Washington, where she worked at a small novelty shop and later at a Bank.  She returned back to her home town of Velva in 1951 and began working at Verendrye Electric.  She also worked for various families in the Velva community.

Eunice was united in marriage to Chester Michaelson on December 15, 1957, and then took on the big challenge of being a full-time mom and housewife.  Eunice and Chester successfully raised 12 children on a farmstead southeast of Velva. Chester passed away on January 19, 2002. 

Eunice was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Velva and the Confraternity of Christian Mothers.  She was also a member of the Velva PTA and the Velva American Legion Auxiliary.

Eunice was preceded in death by her husband, Chester; son, Paul Michaelson; grandson, Benjamin Michaelson; her parents, Fred and Elna Miller; brother, Harold Miller, and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bennie and Lillian Michaelson.

Funeral:  Monday, August 2, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Velva, ND. 

Visitation and vigil service:  Visitation Sunday, August 1, 2010 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., with the vigil prayer service at 6:00 p.m., all at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Velva, ND.

Burial:  Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Velva, ND.

Memorials are preferred to the Paul Michaelson Memorial Scholarship Fund at Dickinson State University, or to the Velva Ambulance Service.
