George L. Meyers 1925 - 2002 George L. Meyers, 77, 1000 20th Ave. NW, Minot, died Thursday, May 9, 2002, in a Minot hospital. He was born on February 27, 1925, in McClusky, ND, the son of Louis G. and Margaret (Fitzgerald) Meyers. He attended grade school in McClusky, and later moved with his parents to Anamoose, ND, where he attended Anamoose High School. As a young man, he worked on area farms. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1943, and served the majority of his tour on the USS Frost, a destroyer escort. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1946, and returned to his family in North Dakota. He married Berniece Halstengard on June 2, 1947, in Minot, ND. They lived and raised their family in Minot. He worked for the Nash Finch Company as a salesman until 1959. He then started his career as an insurance agent for the Prudential Insurance Company. He was an agent and staff manager in Minot for 22 years. While active, he earned numerous regional and national achievement awards within the company, and was revered by many of his colleagues for his work ethic. He retired from the insurance industry in 1981, due to health reasons. George and Berniece continued to live in Minot, and spent their winters in Las Vegas, NV, since 1984. He was a member and former usher of Zion Lutheran Church in Minot. He was a member of the American Legion, the Eagles Aerie, and a former member of the Elks Lodge, all of Minot. He was a very energetic person. He thoroughly loved talking and interacting with people, which corresponded wonderfully with his profession. He was caring of the people he came in contact with, his family, his clients, and even those he met while shopping or eating out. He enjoyed a well-kept yard and his daily walks, which allowed him to see or visit a neighbor or friend while on the journey. Survivors: Wife, Berniece, Minot; two children, Gary G. Meyers and wife Karen, Aurora, CO, and Vickie A. Traub and husband Jerry, Garrison, ND; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild, Gary Meyers and wife Kristen and their son, Nicholas, and Christopher Meyers and fiancée Jennifer Gronevold, all of Highlands Ranch, CO; two step-grandchildren, Steven Herald and David Herald and wife Tara, both of Aurora; siblings, Marcella Kaczmarek, Santa Clara, CA, Irvin Meyers and wife Joanne, Orlando, FL, Donald Meyers and wife Dedee, Paradise Valley, AZ, and Frank Meyers and wife Margie, Reno, NV; brothers-in-law, Peter Goetz, Minot, Tom Halstengard and his wife Teddi, Loveland, CO; sisters-in-law, Clara Ell, Kooskia, ID, and Elvina Halstengard, of Mesa, AZ and Minot. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. His parents, one great-grandchild, Noah Meyers; three sisters, Lucille Rice, Marion Combs, and Pearl Goetz, and one infant brother, Alvin Meyers, preceded him in death. Funeral: Tuesday, May 14, 2002, 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Minot, ND Visitation: Monday, May 13, 2002, from noon to 7:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND Officiant: Rev.
