Berniece Meyers 1928 - 2007
Berniece
Meyers, 79, Bismarck, ND, formerly of Minot, ND, died Sunday,
January 6, 2008 in a Bismarck nursing home.
Berniece Halstenguard was born on June 25, 1928, the daughter
of Thomas and Berget Halstenguard in Velva, ND. She was raised
and educated in Velva and graduated from Velva High School in
1946. She furthered her education by receiving a teaching certificate
and taught in a one room country school near Granville, ND; where
she taught grades 1-12.
She married George L. Meyers on June 2, 1947 in Minot, ND. They
lived and raised their family in Minot. While raising their family,
Berniece was active at Zion Lutheran Church, belonging to Circles
and Bible study groups. Thru the years she had many jobs from
handing out food samples at Piggly Wiggly to selling World Book
Encyclopedias; to being a Den Mother for boy scouts and involved
with Brownies for girl scouts.
Of course her beloved husband, George of 55 years knew all these
good qualities about her. He knew he had married a woman who
maintained a positive, happy outlook on life. He enjoyed a good
joke and loved to tease her. She treasured the life they shared,
the family they raised and their circle of friends.
In 1984, George retired and they spent the spring, summer and
fall in Minot, but lived in Las Vegas, NV, in the winters. George
passed away May 9, 2002. She continued to live in Minot and in
the fall of 2003, moved into Brentmoor. Most recently she resided
at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center in Bismarck.
Berniece was a member of the American Legion, the Eagles Aerie-where
she was also an employee; the Moose Lodge and a former member
of the Elks Lodge, all of Minot. She was a very caring individual
that loved to be around people and had so many friends that were
always looking for her advice. From her coffee parties to her
monthly card parties, she was loved by many.
