Lawrence F. Meyer 1931 - 2011

Lawrence Meyer PhotoLawrence F. Meyer, 79, Minot, passed away, Thursday, June 2, 2011 in a Minot hospital.

Lawrence was born June 12, 1931 in Karlsruhe, ND, to Peter and Johanna (Riplinger) Meyer.  Lawrence was raised on the family farm and as a young man helped his parent’s farm and ranch.  He attended a rural school house through the eighth grade.

On June 15, 1955, Lawrence married Elizabeth M. “Moudeen” Pritschet at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Foxholm.  Moudeen passed away on August 20, 2010.

Following their marriage they farmed at Karlsruhe for one year before moving to Minot.  In the 60’s he purchased the family farm and farmed until 1979 when he sold the farm. They also managed the Dakota Apartments for 15 years and he worked for Feist Construction for many years.  He later worked at Minot Sash and Door until retirement in the late 80’s.  Lawrence then started Meyer’s Custom “Wood” Rails and Remodeling which he owned and operated into the 90’s.  In 1989 he designed and built his house on Minot’s south edge where his family spent the last 21 Christmases together.  He moved to the Wellington in October 2010 where he made friends easily.

Lawrence was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church for 33 years and Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for the past 22 years and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, all in Minot.  Lawrence and Moudeen were strong supporters of all the activities their children were involved in and continued that support on to their grandchildren.  Lawrence was a self-taught accordion player.  He loved farming, raising cattle and he enjoyed gardening.  Lawrence and Moudeen could often be found having coffee at the mall with their friends.

On May 29, 2011 he celebrated his 80th birthday at an early party held at his house with hundreds attending.  Lawrence was the neighborhood grandfather and he loved all the CNA’s who took great care of him.  His hands could build anything, but his heart built a family who will dearly miss his quick wit and sense of humor.  His great-granddaughters, Abigail and Elizabeth were his little sweethearts.
