Sylvia Meuth, 90, Watford City, ND, formerly of Minot, ND, passed away Monday, February 2, 2009, at the Good Shepherd Home in Watford City.

Sylvia Magdalene Evenson was born September 11, 1918, a daughter of Adolph and Theresa (Frison) Evenson, in Van Hook, ND. She was raised in Van Hook and attended first and second grade school in Sanish, ND, before attending St. Leo's School in Minot. She graduated from St. Leo's High School in 1937. She then attended Minot State Teacher's College where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education.

Following her graduation from Minot State Teacher's College, she taught in Plaza, ND, and then in Clearmont, Wyoming.

Sylvia enlisted in the United States Marine Corps January 23, 1944. She proudly served her country during WWII and was honorably discharged January 18, 1946.

Sylvia married Ervin F. Meuth January 28, 1946, at Van Hook, ND. They made their home in Minot, where she raised her five children. She then returned to teaching in 1965, when she taught 3rd Grade at St. Leo's School. She retired from teaching in 1987, at the age of 70. Her loving husband, Ervin passed away November 18, 1991.

She was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, and playing bridge, as she belonged to many bridge clubs. She also enjoyed walking, especially to church, reading, dancing, playing the piano, and as a young woman, enjoyed riding horses.

Sylvia was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was patient, gentle, and devoted to her faith and family all of her life. She always saw the best in everyone.

Her loving family includes: children, Timothy (Kathy) Meuth, Watford City, ND, Patrick (Marcia) Meuth, Sparks, NV, and his twin sister, JoAnne Bassett, Cheyenne, WY, Sharon (Wally) Kalmbach, Bismarck, ND, and Janet Beauclair, Bismarck, ND; 10 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Marion Evenson, Parshall, ND, Margie Cook, Texas City, TX, Bernice Wiatrek, San Antonio, TX, brother-in-law, James Meuth, San Antonio, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ervin; brother, Edward Evenson; and sister, Dolores Glasner.

Funeral: Thursday, February 5, 2009, at 12:00 p.m. (Noon) at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot.

Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.

Visitation: Wednesday from Noon to 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Vigil Prayer Service: Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Memorials: Sylvia's family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Leo' Catholic Church, or Home on The Range, Sentinel Butte Ranch, 16351 I-94, Sentinel Butte, ND 58654-9500.
