Verene Mersch 1934- 2010

Verene Mersch PhotoVerene Mersch, 76, Minot, died Monday, September 20, 2010, in a Minot hospital.

Born Dorothy Verene Grieve, she was the daughter of Elmer W. and Dorothy A. (Nevens) Grieve.  She was born on April 10, 1934 in Buffalo, ND.

She attended a rural school and graduated from Buffalo High School.  She then attended and graduated from New York Hairdressing Academy in Fargo, ND.  She owned and operated a beauty shop in Valley City, ND, for a short time.

She married Vernon N. Mersch on October 16, 1954 in Valley City, ND.  They then made their home in Minot, ND.

While in Minot, Verene worked in the fabric department of J.C. Penney from 1967 until 1972.  She has been an active member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church and its Altar Society since 1961, holding many offices in that organization.  She served on the Parish Council and was one of the church organists for many years.  She was also proud to be involved in the production of the Ward County Centennial Book.

Surviving family includes:  her husband, Vernon and her son, Mike, both of Minot; her brother Bill Grieve and his wife Bev of Buffalo, ND; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mass of Christian Burial:  Thursday, September 23, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot.

Interment:  Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.

Visitation:  Wednesday, September 22, 2010 from noon to 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Vigil Prayer Service:  Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
