Erna Merkel-Scott • 1915 - 2007 Erna was born on April 24, 1915, the last of four children to John and Elizabeth Weisenberger on a farm south of Tuttle, ND. She was raised and educated in Tuttle. She was united in marriage to John Merkel on August 24, 1929. Together they had six children. They lived in Arena, ND, and then moved to Vancouver, WA. In 1943, they moved to Steele, ND and operated a farm. John died in 1961. In 1966, she was united in marriage to Robert L. Scott. Together they lived in Minot, where Erna was the owner/operator of Erna's Restaurant, which was a well known eatery in the Magic City for a number of years. Robert died April 30, 2001. She was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church, Minot Bowling Association and the Minot Square Dance Club. Erna's creativity in decorating cakes began at Dakota Maid bakery In Bismarck, ND. She's done hundreds of cakes over the years which include wedding, graduation, and anniversary cakes for everyone in her family and friends. Erna is survived by: Son: Arnold Merkel, Minot; daughters:
