Frank Edward Merck 1929 - 2007 Frank was born on November 5, 1929 in Karlsruhe, ND, the son of Jacob and Regina (Boehm) Merck. He grew up on farms in the Karlsruhe area and graduated from Karlsruhe High School. In 1952 he entered the US Army and served in the Korean War. After his honorable discharge from the military, he worked for Westland Oil, Rice Distributing, Magic City Beverage and Western Steel. He retired in 1994. After retirement, he took on private painting jobs throughout the community. On October 19, 1954 at Little Flower Catholic Church in Minot he married the former Beatrice Klein. Frank was an avid sports fan and took great joy in spending time with family and friends. He cherished his grandchildren and enjoyed playing ball with them in his backyard. During his life, he took on a number of odd jobs for elderly women, who treated him like their own son. Frank was a gifted athlete in his own right, excelling at basketball and baseball. Even while playing in old pro softball games, Frank was still slugging home runs. Frank enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in church and school activities and he was their hero and best buddy. Frank had a joy for life and loved people. He greeted friends and strangers alike with a smile and a handshake or a pat on the back. Frank loved his country, having served in the US Army, and was proud to be from the state of North Dakota. He was a loving father who would do anything for his children. He guided them to adulthood with a gentle caring hand. Frank was a devoted husband, and Beatrice was the love of his life. They shared so many good years together and were united in their Faith and love for the Lord. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Frank was a charter member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Knights of Columbus and the Moose Club all of Minot.
