Christian "Christ" Merck 1925 - 2010

Christ Merck PhotoChristian “Christ” Merck, 85, Minot, formerly of Karlsruhe, ND, died Tuesday, December 28, 2010 in a Minot nursing home.

Christ was born April 14, 1925 in Karlsruhe to Jacob and Regina (Boehm) Merck.  He was raised and educated in Karlsruhe.  He farmed in the Karlsruhe area.  He loved farming and was very successful at it.  When his parents weren’t able to care for themselves, he cared for them until they passed away.  In his younger years he enjoyed playing baseball and also loved to golf.  He had beautiful gardens in Karlsruhe and enjoyed sharing his produce with his brothers and sisters.

In 2003 Christ moved to Somerset Court in Minot.  He enjoyed living there and loved the staff that took such good care of him.  He partook in all the activities, and especially loved the meals at Somerset.  While living there he went to daily mass, where he served as bell ringer for some time.  Mass and church meant everything to Christ and he enjoyed the company of Father Schneider.  We would like to thank Father Schneider for all his care.

Christ was dedicated to the Karlsruhe community.  He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church where he sang in the church choir and served on the Parish Council.  He was a member of the Karlsruhe Senior Citizens and served on the Karslruhe City Board.  Christ was also a member of the Eagle’s Club in Minot.
