Warren Melby 1925 - 2010

Warren Melby PhotoWarren Melby, 84, Minot, ND, formerly of Carpio and Plaza, ND, passed away Saturday, February 6, 2010, at Trinity Homes, Minot.  

Warren H. Melby was born April 7, 1925, a son of Lars and Mina (Jenson) Melby, in Carpio, ND. He was raised and educated in Carpio and in Plaza.

Warren enlisted in the United States Navy August 20, 1943. He proudly served his country and fought in the battle of Iwa Jima in the Pacific Campaign of WWII. He was honorably discharged September 10, 1945.

Warren married Sylvia L. Johnson on January 15, 1947. They had made their home in Minot, Carpio and Plaza, ND, and in California. Warren pursued various careers and had worked for Westland Oil, Minot Police Department, Ward County Highway Department, and then owned and operated Melby’s Portable Welding, where he performed mechanical welding and machine design in both North Dakota and California until 2009.

He enjoyed camping, fishing, traveling, conversation, and a good joke or two. Warren will be missed by his family and his many friends.

Surviving family includes:  wife, Sylvia, Minot; children, Shirley Boyko, Bismarck, Debbi (Dallas) Moore, Blaisdell, and Kimberlee (Dave) Marsland, Minot; grandchildren, Shawn Boyko, Chad Boyko, Shona Seiler, Destrie Marsland, J.D. Moore, Kutter Moore, and Billi Moore; great-grandchildren, Amber Hendrickson, Zachary Boyko, Nicholas, and Gavin Seiler, Brenna, Erin, and Colton Moore, Kelcey Bugbee, Tibbs Moore, Reno and Denver Carmona; great great-grandchildren, Addison Bugbee, and Tucker Lee; brother, George Melby, Las Vegas, NV; and many nieces, and nephews.

Warren was preceded in death by his parents; great grandsons, Garrett Seiler and Tanner Carmona; brothers, Melvin, Edward, Raymond, and James Melby; and sisters, June (Charles) Sandstrom, and Leona (Harold) Winslow.

Funeral: Friday, February 12, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at Seventh-day Adventist Church, Minot, with Pastor Marion Miller officiating.

Interment:  Rosehill Memorial Park Veterans Section, Minot, ND.

Visitation: 
Thursday from 2 to 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
