Sally Meland 1910 - 2004

Sally Meland, 94, Minot, ND, died Wednesday, November 3, 2004, in a Minot nursing home.

Selma Mathilde "Sally" Johnson was born on October 30, 1910, the daughter of Magnus and Anna (Swenson) Johnson in Northwood, ND. She was raised on the family farm, located in James Hill Township of Mountrail County, northwest of Stanley, ND. She graduated from Stanley High School.

Sally was married to Baard Hollinger. They continued to reside on the family farm and together they had three children, Milford, Shirley and Bette. They were later divorced. She then moved to Billings, MT, where she worked as a laundress, housekeeper and a waitress. While in Billings, MT, she married Ervin Hill. They returned to Minot. Ervin died in 1964.

She was later married to Arthur Meland on November 19, 1965, in Minot. She was employed by Minot Laundry as a laundress for a number of years. Art died on September 4, 1995. She continued to reside in Minot, and most recently moved into ManorCare in July 2004.

Sally attended Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot. She was a member of the Minot Senior Citizens and the Women of the Moose.

She enjoyed playing Bingo, crocheting, and embroidering.

Surviving family includes: daughters: Shirley (Melvin) Moe; and Bette (Daryl) Belik, both of Tioga;
grandchildren: Tammy (Dale) Fredrickson; Michael (Michelle) Moe; LeAnn (Lonnie) Moody; Kristine (James) Sandbeck; and Shannon Belik;
great-grandchildren: Tara and Travor Fredrickson; Brittany and Mariah Moe; Lex, Clay, and Kahl Moody; Jayden and Jaren Sandbeck;

Sally was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; brother, Alvin Johnson; and son, Alvin Milford Hollinger.

Funeral: Monday, November 8, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot.

Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.

Visitation: Sunday, November 7, 2004, from Noon until 5 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
