Shirley Mae Meissel, 72, Velva, died Tuesday, October 16, 2007, in a Minot hospital.

Shirley was born on July 16, 1935, in Rugby, ND, the daughter of Albert and Selma (Skaaden) Jevne. She was raised in Upham and graduated from the Devils Lake School for the Deaf in 1957.

Shirley moved to Minot after graduation and worked at Trinity Hospital where she was introduced to her future husband Walter. Shirley and Walter were married on May 1, 1960, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Minot. Shirley and Walter had two daughters, Kathy and Gerry. Walter died on September 14, 2003, in Velva. Shirley continued to reside in Velva after Walter's death.

Survivors: daughters, Kathy (Bret) Schonauer, Velva, Gerry (Ron) Chalcraft, Mill City, OR; grandchildren, April, Heather, Amber and Thomas; step-grandchildren, Jennifer (Mike) Russell; step-great-grandchildren, Dawn, Brittany, Josh, Shaelyn and Noah; sister, Rose Radke, Bismarck, ND; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, her parents, sister, Doris Gulbranson and brother Tillman Jevne.

Funeral Service: Friday, at 11 a.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Minot.

Visitation: Thursday from Noon until 5 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Burial: Velva Community Cemetery, Velva.

Officiant: Rev. Luther Hanson, chaplain Trinity Homes, Minot
