Lumoil "Happy" McGillivray 1926 - 2011
Lumoil “Happy” McGillivray, the only person in the United States with that name, died Sunday, March 27, 2011 in a Minot hospital at the age of 85.
Happy was born on January 30, 1926 in rural Bowbells, ND, a daughter of Oscar and Alma (Dahl ) Luckman. She attended rural school in that area. She married George McGilllivray on November 1, 1944 in Plentywood, MT. The couple then moved to Minot, where they raised their children.
Happy worked as a baker for many years. She then worked for Senior Companions, a job that deeply enriched her life. Her husband George died in 1973.
Happy enjoyed fishing trips with her family in the early years. Later on in life she enjoyed gardening, baking and crocheting. She always kept a neat house and had plenty of food for visitors and family.
Happy enjoyed her family. She was always excited to receive a visit from her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She always kept everyone up to date on family happenings. In the last two years, her last two great grandchildren, James and Zoey, were born. This brought much joy and a smile to her face.
She is survived by: daughters, Paulett Pollard of Bottineau, ND, Karen (Leonard) Fleck of Mandan, ND and Peggy (George) Piehl of Hebron, ND; sons, Terry (LaRae) McGillivray of Moorhead, MN and George (Kim) McGillivray of Menominee, MI; grandchildren, William Garrett. DuWayne Garrett, James (Gretta) Pollard, Jeffrey Pollard, Shauna McGillivray, Kevin (Caroline) McGillivray, Jason Miller, Kara (Clayton) Busche, Dayna (Alex) Mattson, Erik (Michelle) McGillivray, Matthew Piehl and Cody Piehl; 10 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband George; her parents; a great granddaughter, Alayna Mattson; brother Harold Luckman; and sisters, Margaret Ware, Leone Wallace, Joyce Cron and Alice Christianson.
Memorial service: Thursday, March 31, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Minot, ND.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.
