Gerald L. "Jerry" McGillivray 1934- 2006

Gerald L. "Jerry" McGillivray, 72, Flaxton, died Saturday, July 1, 2006 at his home after a valiant battle with cancer.

Jerry was born May 23, 1934 at the family farm near Norma, ND, the son of George and Esta (Dickenson) McGillivray. He was second to the youngest of 17 children and was the youngest boy. He attended grade school in Powers Lake and Bowbells, and graduated from Bowbells High School in 1953.

On June 20, 1953 Jerry married Patricia "Pat" Chrest in Bowbells. They lived and worked in Minot until Jerry became the manager of a grain elevator in Woburn, ND. In 1965, Jerry and Pat moved to Flaxton. Jerry managed "The Hole Bar" for several years, worked in the oilfield, owned a road construction company, and was an independent trucker when he retired. His wife Pat died in 1988.

Following retirement Jerry enjoyed spending more time with his family. He loved fishing and his two dogs, Tuffy and Louie. He was very active in the Democratic Party and served as Mayor of Flaxton for a time.

Survivors: Sons, Mack McGillivray and his wife Heidi, Rapid City, SD, and Shannon McGillivray and his wife Angie, Lisbon, ND; grandchildren, Meghan, Ryan, Steven and Riley; sisters, Janene Nordloef, Stanley, and Avis Barnett, Park River, ND; brother, Floyd McGillivray, Pahrup, NV; many nieces and nephews also survive.

Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Pat; daughters, Connie and Laurie; son, Randy; his parents, George and Esta; 10 sisters and four brothers.

Funeral: Friday, July 9, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Minot, ND.

Visitation and prayer service: Thursday, July 8, 2006, from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00, all at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Burial: Friday at 3:00 p.m., at the Bowbells Cemetery, Bowbells, ND.
