Lorraine McDowell 1933- 2009

Lorraine McDowell PhotoLorraine McDowell, 76, Velva, died Wednesday, December 30, 2009 in a Minot hospital.

Lorraine Ellison was born on July 22, 1933, a daughter of Eric and Alma G. (Haga) Ellison in Minot, ND. She was raised and educated in Bergen, graduating from Bergen High School.

On June 6, 1952, Lorraine was united in marriage to Jerry McDowell at Zion Lutheran Church. They made their home in Velva, where Lorraine was the Velva City Auditor. They moved into Minot, and Lorraine worked for Manorcare Health Services and Northwest Building Improvement. Jerry died in 1973. She continued to live in Minot, before entering the Souris Valley Care Center in Velva.

She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, doing crossword puzzles, reading books and entertaining guests.

She is survived by:  Daughters Sherri (special friend William Otto) McDowell, Minot, Pattie (special Friend Ken Lewis) Molina, Minot; five grandchildren: Dustin (Catherine) Mize, Matthew Mize, Eric Mize, Ryan McDowell, Bryce Molina; five great-grandchildren: brothers: James (Irene) Ellison, Ivan (Myrna) Ellison, both of Velva; sisters: Doris (Burdette) Kittleson, Elaine Olson, both of Velva, sisters-in-law: Ruth Larson, Velva and Beverly Yuly, Minot; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son-in-law Rodney Mize, two infant sisters, and three brother-in-laws, Richard Larson, Norman Olson and Allan Yuly.

Visitation:  There will be no reviewal, however, people may sign a register book on Tuesday one hour prior to service at the church. 

Memorial Service:  Tuesday, January 5, 2010, at 2 pm at Oak Valley Lutheran Church, Velva.

Burial:  In spring of 2010 at Velva Community Cemetery, Velva, ND.

Lorraine’s family would like to thank everyone for the many acts of kindness shown to them during this difficult time. Your thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated and will never be forgotten. May God bless the memory of Lorraine.
