Ruth D. McDonald 1909 - 2005

Ruth D. McDonald, 93, Minot, formerly of Deering, died Saturday, April 2, 2005 in a Minot Hospital.

Ruth was born to Adam and Caroline (Pfaff) Haas on October 14, 1911, in Goodrich, ND. She was raised and educated in the Kramer and Newburg ND areas and graduated from Newburg High School. She then graduated from Minette Beauty School in Fargo and worked for a time in Minot as a hairdresser. Ruth married E. Lester McDonald on January 12, 1934, in Towner, ND. The couple made their home in Deering where they raised their six children. Lester died April 23, 1996. In October 2001, Ruth moved to Somerset Court in Minot and in 2003, she moved to Trinity Homes.

Ruth was an avid reader and an accomplished seamstress. She loved music, enjoyed needlework, refinishing furniture, attending Lester's auction sales, collecting antiques, bird watching, and spending time in her flower garden.

Ruth was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Deering, and St. Leo's Catholic Church in Minot. She was a member of the Altar Society, Homemakers Club, Senior Citizens, and a long time 4-H Leader, all in Deering. She was a sky watcher in the 1950's.

Ruth was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was kind and generous to family and friends.

Ruth is survived by her children, Mary Jo (Bill) Merck, Minot, Thomas McDonald, Minot, Carolyn Johnson, Minot, and Teresa (Bill) Cowan, Casper, WY; daughter-in-law, LaRae McDonald; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Irma McDonald and Ina McDonald, both of Minot; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester; sons, James and Daniel; parents; sisters, Garnet Tewell, Alice Johnson, Esther Glaze Kirkide, and Viola Aker; grandson, Kevin Johnson; son-in-law, Wesley Johnson, and daughter-in-law, Patricia McDonald.

Visitation: Thursday, April 7, 2005, from noon until 7:00 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Vigil Prayer Service: Thursday, April 7, 2005, at 7:00 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Minot

Mass Of Christian Burial: Friday, April 8, 2005 at 10:30 am at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot
