Kevin A. Mattson, 55, Minot, died Friday, September 12, 2008 in a Minot hospital.

Kevin was born on April 1, 1953 a son of Leif and Marjorie (Fredrickson) Mattson in Minot, ND. He was raised and educated in Minot, graduating from Minot High School in 1971. He furthered his education, attending NDSU, receiving a Civil Engineering degree.

Kevin began working for Mattson Construction Company very early in his life, as a third generation member of the family. He first joined the Company as a laborer, working weekends and summers, and eventually as President. His first project was to design and build the Minot Air Force Base Commissary. His next project was the Minot Job Corps Complex. Other projects that Kevin oversaw included Grand Forks Air Force Base Commissary, Minot Airport Terminal, First International Bank Building, the National Guard FMS, and several other projects throughout the greater Minot area. He designed and planned the renovation of the Grand International Inn. In addition to other projects, for the past few years Kevin lead the Company in partnership with RMR Joint Venture, building a several-hundred unit housing complex at the MAFB.

On November 30, 2000, he was united in marriage to Joan King.

Everything Kevin did, he did with passion, whether it was working, golfing, in which he hit a hole-in-one in 2003, hunting, Friday afternoon Board meetings with friends, or spending time with his nephews, friends and other family members. He was an accomplished cook, preparing smoked pork chops for Y's Men's functions, business after hours, and the Great Tomato Festival. His belief in the growth of Minot and the region figured prominently in his business relationships and networking opportunities.

Kevin believed in Minot, North Dakota, his heritage, and his family. Everyone will miss this tall guy wearing that floppy bucket hat, with no discernible brim line, and that protruding cigar, walking down the fairway, with a set of golf clubs with no more than 2 clubs of the same brand in the bag.
Kevin was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Minot Y's Men, Associated General Contractors (AGC) and the Minot Country Club. Despite being a graduate of NDSU, Kevin was an avid fan of UND Hockey. At the time of this death Kevin, was on the Board of Mattson Construction Company and the Grand International Inn.

Kevin is survived by his wife, Joan Mattson, Minot; brothers: Doug (Penny Miller) Mattson, Minot, Jeffrey (Libby) Mattson, Ridgefield, CT, sisters: Linda (Larry) Nelson, Minot, Jill (Prabuddha Sanyal) Mattson, Odenton, MD; many nephews, nieces, uncles, aunts and cousins also survive.

Kevin was preceded in death by his father Leif, mother Marjorie, maternal grandparents Arthur and Myrtle Fredrickson and paternal grandparents Isak and Julia Mattson.
