Irene Mattis 1935 - 2003

Irene Mattis, 68, Minot, died Thursday, June 5, 2003, near Layton, Utah, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Irene was born May 17, 1935, in Orrin, ND, the daughter of Phillip and Barbara (Wolf) Reiger. She was raised and educated in Orrin. Following school she moved to Bismarck where she worked for a time.

On September 25, 1954, she married Paul Mattis in Wilton, ND. They lived in Minot and then moved to San Jose, CA, where they resided for 10 years. Irene and Paul bought a ranch in Missouri, which they owned and operated for 31 years until their retirement. Following retirement they lived in Las Vegas, NV, for six years, before moving back to North Dakota where they since have lived.

Survivors: Husband, Paul, Minot; daughters, Paula Mattis, Hopkinton, NH, and Melanie Harrington, Las Vegas, NV; one granddaughter, Nicole Charron; sisters, Helen Ziegler, Elizabeth Keller, and Opal Lemer, all of Drake, ND, Agnes Breckner, Las Vegas, NV, and Margaret Duchsherer, Voltaire; brothers, Frank Reiger, Ogden, Utah, Clemens Reiger, Parker, Colorado, Pete, Wendelin, Pius and Edmund Reiger, all of Las Vegas, NV; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Louie Reiger, and one sister, Rose Reiger.

Funeral: Thursday, June 12, 2003, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot, ND.

Visitation: Wednesday, June 11, 2003, from noon to 7:00 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND. There will be no reviewal at the church Thursday, prior to the service.

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.
