Lloyd R. Mattern • 1919 - 2007

Lloyd R. Mattern, 88, Kenmare, ND, died Wednesday, January 9, 2008, at a Mohall nursing home.

Lloyd was born June 24, 1919, in Loraine, ND, the son of Fredrick and Emily (Ramsdell) Mattern. He was raised in the Tolley and Norma areas and graduated from Tolley High School.

Lloyd married Rachel Ackerman on June 29, 1946, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Kenmare. The couple moved to Spokane, WA after their marriage where Lloyd worked for the railroad. In 1950,the couple moved back to Kenmare and Lloyd worked as a county surveyor. They moved to Mohall for a couple years where Lloyd worked at Mattern Ready Mix. Lloyd retired and he and Rachel returned to Kenmare. Rachel passed away on November 25, 1999.

Lloyd entered the Kenmare Baptist Home on May 1st 2002 and on April 1, 2004, moved to the Mohall Good Samaritan Center.

Lloyd loved fishing, hunting, playing cards and spending time with his family his grandkids and great-grandkids. He also enjoyed entertaining the staff at the Good Samaritan Home in Mohall.

Lloyd was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Kenmare and was active with St. Agnes Holy Name Men's Group.

(Dawn) Mattern, Drayton, ND; daughters, Renae Marie (Brian) Johnson, Mohall, Rosalie Emily (Mike) Seibel, Devils Lake, ND, 15 grandchildren, RitaJean (Roger), LaRae, Barry, Benjamin, Jenna, Paul (Kelli), Aimee (Pat), Steven (Val), Katie, Adam, LeAnne, Jayden, Jerod, Kristi (Craig) and Brady; five great-grandchildren, Makensie, Ashlyn, Elizabeth, Tyson, Clayton ; brother, Leslie (Bernice) Mattern, Garland, TX; brothers-in-law, Lawrence (Sally) Ackerman, Elgin, ND, Alvin Ackerman, Kenmare, Leroy (Judy) Ackerman, Devils Lake, ND, Jim (Eleanor) Ackerman, Kenmare and Pete Ackerman, Minot; sister-in-laws, Delores Mattern, Mohall and Marlyn (Howard) Moericke, Flaxton, Darlene Bartuska, Mohall, Shirley (Jim) Clark, Wilbur, WA, Isabelle Ackerman, Kenmare and Adeline Sorby, Minot; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rachel; grandson, Matthew Mattern, infant bother and sister Emmett and Joyce Mattern; brothers, Clarence (Gladys) Mattern and Laurance Mattern; sister, Gladys (Bill) Pautz; brothers-in-law, Bud Ackerman, Maurice Ackerman, Leo (Evelyn) Schmitz, Jim Bartuska and Marvin Kalmbach and sister-in-law, Sharon Ackerman and Eleanor Ackerman.

Mass of Christian Burial: Monday, January 14, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. St. Agnes Catholic Church, Kenmare

Vigil Prayer Service: Sunday, January 13, 2008, at 4 p.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Kenmare

Visitation: Sunday, January 13, 2008 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Kenmare

Burial: St. Agnes Catholic Cemetery, Kenmare
